Sarah Harris has always been an enthusiastic athlete. At a young age
competed she for her county at swimming. It wasn't until Sarah reached
her late 20's when she took up running.
Initially her interest was
driven through the need to keep fit but after entering her first
marathon (for fun) in the New Forest and winning in a time of 3.01 that
she realised her potential.
During the next couple of years Sarah
achieved recognition for her running by earning her England vest on two
occasions in the World IAU 50k race series. Not completely satisfied with her performances Sarah decided to take a
12 month break from running to concentrate on work and her family, but
with the support of her family and a very good friend Andy McNeill (who
is now her coach) Sarah returned to running as a member of Long Eaton
Running Club in September 2009 with the ambition to run a sub 2.40
marathon.
Throughout 2010 Sarah has achieved significant steps towards this
goal with huge PB's in both her training and races across various
distances, which include becoming the current world record holder for
the kilomathon, and PB's over the half marathon and 10k distances and
also winning the Derbyshire County Cross Country Championship.
Sarah's targets for 2011 not only include developing her skills in
sports massage therapy, along with supporting local schools with
coaching but also to run sub 75 minutes for the half marathon, and
ultimately sub 2.38 for the marathon. On top of these personal
ambitions she remains loyal to her family and enjoys spending time with
her children and husband.
